my grandmother hip ah. got english name. the name mary was given to my grandmother many years back by my cousins. i didnt know that, until one day they prank call my hse and asked for mary. she:"hello, may i speak to mary please?" me:"mary?sorry, no mary here. wrong number." she:"oh ok, bye." i bet she said that because she was going to laugh soon and had to cut off first before calling back. it hapened while i was in pri 2 i think. i dont know why they decided to give my grandma a english name, but i guess its because its during that time, people was christening themselves with christian name. mary, probably because it was the name of my grandmother generation. simple names like mary, nancy blah blah. i didnt dare to call my grandma by the name mary last time as i was afraid i would be scolded. but now, i address my grandma as mary. i ask her if she wants anything i will ," mary, you want anything?(in teochew) ."then she will say im so no manners afterwhich i would call her mamaa.
